Wolverhampton Shopmobility service to be extended for city show

Posted On 22 June 2013

The organisers of Wolverhampton’s city show have announced that residents of, and visitors to, the city will enjoy an extended Shopmobility service that will ensure anyone with mobility difficulties can enjoy the event.

Organisers advise that electric mobility scooters and manual wheelchairs can be booked in advance from Wolverhampton City Council’s Shopmobility service for the show at West Park on July 12 and 13.

Shopmobility staff will arrange for people to pick up mobility equipment from either from the Shopmobility marquee at West Park or from the usual Shopmobility base in the Wulfrun Shopping Centre. This service will be available on both show days.

Due to the anticipated high demand, Shopmobility users are being encouraged to book their use of the equipment in advance. In this case, users are also advised to make use of the dedicated Shopmobility parking spaces outside the centre in Cleveland Street. Customers can then pick up their equipment and will be given a route to the show from the centre. Alternatively, the pre-booked equipment can be waiting at the Shopmobility marquee in West Park, although parking at West Park cannot be guaranteed.

Wolverhampton’s Shopmobility scheme operates from the Wulfrun Shopping Centre in the city centre. It offers a range of mobility scooters, wheelchairs and trolleys for hire for use around the city centre. There is a selection of three and four wheeled scooters that are designed to assist people of up to 35 stone in weight.

The is a charge of 50p for the first hour and 25p for each hour thereafter for all the scheme’s powered equipment, while there is a 50p per loan charge for manual wheelchairs. Shopping trolleys are available free of charge.

There is an additional holiday loan service which allows manual wheelchairs to be hired for a period of up to three weeks at a charge of £1 per day.

Wolverhampton’s Shopmobility usual opening times are from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, with the exception of Bank Holidays, when the service is closed.
