Northampton Council discusses new home for Shopmobility service

Posted On 11 May 2013

It was announced today that Northampton’s Shopmobility service could be getting a new home thanks to the town’s Borough Council.

Today, a report about the Greyfriars car park’s future and accommodation for the Shopmobility service will be debated by Northampton Borough Council's cabinet. The report proposes a move for Ability Northants' Shopmobility centre to a new purpose-built facility in the Mayorhold car park.

Northampton’s Shopmobility scheme helps people with mobility problems to travel around the town centre and Northampton General Hospital.

Councillor and cabinet member for finance Malcolm Mildren said: "Shopmobility does a lot of good work in helping to make the town accessible to everyone, and the borough council already awards Shopmobility over £30,000 a year in grant funding.

"The proposed move is a chance for the borough council to provide brand new facilities. If approved, I feel this would allow Shopmobility to offer an improved service to their customers as well as providing a better working environment for Shopmobility's staff."
